Bro. Jay McCasland's Obituary
Funeral services for Jay McCasland 70, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Rev. Wade Harelson and Roger McCasland officiating. Burial will be at 2 PM Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Okemah, Oklahoma. Bro. Jay passed away Saturday evening in a local hospital. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Bro. Jay was born on December 27, 1943 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Melvin and Nadine McCasland. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during Viet Nam. He was married to the love of his life, Carolyn, in 1964. Jay surrendered to preach in 1968 and moved to Longview in 1971. During his ministry he pastored many churches in East Texas including Central Baptist Church, Northside Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Laneville, and most notably, North Longview Baptist Church for the past 20 years. He also served the people of Longview as a Chaplain for many businesses including the Longview Police Department and Longview Regional Hospital. Jay’s passion for the Lord and for preaching God’s Word led him to serve in Evangelism for 2 years and to mission work in Brownsville, Texas and in Mexico. He also enjoyed being a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and doing prison ministries all over Texas and Oklahoma with Bill Glass Prison Ministries.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Carolyn McCasland; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Hilary McCasland, Gregg and Angela McCasland, and Rodney McCasland; his grandchildren Colton, Kelsey, Bo, Colby, and Brooklyn McCasland; his sisters, Rita Ogden and Londa McElwee and her husband Danny; his brothers and sisters-in-law Roger and Linda McCasland, and Nick and Brooke McCasland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made for Missions to North Longview Baptist Church, 4010 Judson Road, Longview, Texas 75605.
