Jack Cansler Sandlin's Obituary
Jack Cansler Sandlin, also known as Aggie Jack, 84, of Longview Texas passed away on May 2, 2019. He was born in Kilgore, Texas on April 30, 1935. Jack attended school in Sabine and Kilgore. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1953. He continued his education and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.
Jack married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Hedges Sandlin, in 1957. They were married for 62 years. Jack spent 30 plus years teaching school. Most of those years were spent teaching 8th grade science and driving a school bus for Pine Tree ISD. He also spent his summers traveling while driving a truck for Groendyke Transport. He retired in 1995. Jack was an avid Bass fisherman and hunter. He fished many tournaments with the Pine Tree Bass Club. He was a member of the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge. He sang Bass in the church choir for many years, primarily at Greggton United Methodist. Jack had a love for music, and he especially loved country music. Jack had a contagious sense of humor and loved people. His pride and joy was his family.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Jack Barto Sandlin and Mary Cansler Sandlin and his infant son Kirk Blain Sandlin. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Hedges Sandlin of Longview. His son Jack Randal (Randy) Sandlin and his wife Angela of Longview. His daughter Jill Sandlin Manning and her husband Jim of Longview. His grandchildren, Hunter Sandlin and his wife Tabetha from Diana, Jacob (Jake) Manning and his wife Jacqueline of Longview, Jaclyn Manning Hocutt and her husband Danny of Longview, Tony Allen and his wife Tamara of Winona, Clint Allen of Longview and Holly LaGrone of Gilmer. He is also survived by his 7 great-grandchildren, Gage, Jack Slade, Remi, Cannon, Kylar, Cooper and Anabella. His brother Paul Sandlin of Rosewood and sister Betty Herridge of Austin. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Visitation is set for Sunday, May 5 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview from 4-6pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6th at 10am in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home. Graveside will follow at Kilgore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pine Tree Education Foundation or the Pine Tree Bass Club.
