We met Jack when we were dating and he and Shirley were dating. We knew from our first meeting that Jack was perfect for Shirley, and Mr. and Mrs. Hedges, friends of Gary's family, agreed as well. Who would believe that our paths would cross again when I began teaching at Pine Tree Junior High, and Jack was a teacher there! What fun we had! Plus, we were blessed to get to reconnect with Shirley and to meet their children, whom I also enjoyed knowing at PTISD. Having Jack as a part of my teaching career was a daily treat. He was an excellent teacher who brought humor, stability, and kindness to the lives of his students and co-workers. Our prayers are with you, Shirley, and all of the family during these difficult days, and may God grant you comfort and peace.

Mr. Sandlin was my favorite teacher ever. His warmth and gentle humor made me look forward to his science class. He provided my first window into the world of science, and I loved it immediately. Mr. Sandlin never discouraged my pursuit of science because I was a girl, but instead encouraged me to be curious about the world around me, especially the smallest things that were often easiest to miss. Thank you. Mr. Sandlin. I'll never forget you, and look forward to seeing you again someday.

I knew Jack before grade school even I believe. My grandmother lived in the Huey community and I think that is where I got to know him. Somehow he is near Minature golf in the back of my mind ??? AJ Phipps

Jack was a good friend and colleague. I spent time with him fishing, working, and just talking. He was a great science teacher and role model, who was totally dedicated to his students and his family. He touched hundreds of lives, and will be greatly missed.

PTHS 1987 grad. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He drove my schoolbus for many years. I didn't make things easy for him yet he was always patient with me- & later my siblings. He is an amazing person who made a difference. My gratitude goes to him along with prayers of peace & comfort for his family. Thank you for sharing him.

I am terribly sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Sandlin and would like to extend my condolences to his family.

Mr. Sandlin was my Science Teacher in the 8th grade and he knew my love for Texas A&M. He would open class every day with, Good Morning, My Friends.

That same year Texas A&M would play FSU in the Cotton Bowl. I came back from the holidays and told Mr. Sandlin, “I got tickets to the Cotton Bowl for Christmas and saw TAMU plays FSU.” He said, “will you must be disappointed, given TAMU Lost?” I said, “No sir, I was cheering for FSU. Because my favorite cousin played for them.” From then on class was opened as, “Good Morning My Friends and you too, Mr. Berry.” That greeting stuck with me all through the halls of PTHS.

I also always appreciated how Mr. Sandlin would pay attention to the “Special” students who delivered his popcorn to class each morning and mixed his, “Suicide.” (Aka a mixture of every carbonated beverage on the soda fountain).

Aggie Jack, Thanks for being a Great Man and I know the Aggie War Hymn was played in Heaven upon your arrival.
