H. L., 77, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Henderson Memorial Hospital. He was born April 28, 1929 in Joyce, LA to Murden and Gladys Ashcroft. Ten days after graduating from Minden, LA High School in 1949 he joined the Navy serving on the USS Norton Sound based in Port Hueneme, California. He then attended Louisiana Tech majoring in Geology and graduating Cum Laude in 1955. He was a member of Lion?s International for 34 years serving in all positions at the local and District Levels including governor and Texas Lions Camp Director. One of his great passions I life was the Texas Lions Camp and the children that attended. He organized work days at the Camp and rode on the bus with these special needs children to Kerrville and back on many occasions. During his terms in office more children attended the Camp from this area that ever before. Over at least the last 10 years H.L. went to several different nursing homes as Santa Claus delivering fruit and gift baskets from the Lion?s Club. He loved visiting with the people and bringing a smile to their faces. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church serving as Usher and Greeter. H. L. was married to Julia Judy Hensley on February 18, 1952 in Oxnard, California. He was employed by Amoco for 37 years and resided in various locations and retired in 1993 in Odessa, moving to Lake Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother. Survivors include his wife, two sons David and his wife Connie, Dan and his wife Teressa, grandson Marine Corporal Aaron Lindy and granddaughter Carey Ann. He is also survived by a sister Marie Dixon from Florida and a brother Tommy from Marble Falls. Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home on Judson Road from 6-8 Thursday, July 20. Services are scheduled for 4:00 pm on Friday July 21, 2006 at Trinity Baptist Church, Lakeport with Billy Foote officiating. Burial will be at Rosewood Park.
Pallbearers will be Deacons and Ushers from Trinity Baptist Church.
Honorary Pallbearers are Lance Duke, Al Norrel, Ed White, and Myron Hawkins.
Memorials may be in lieu of flowers to Trinity Baptist Church, PO Box 8286, Longview, TX 75607.
