Harold D. Hewett
Harold D. Hewett of Longview passed away at his home in Spring Hill on September 26, 2008 after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on January 27, 1934 in Bedford, Iowa to Harlan and Marguerite Hewett. He was raised in Hopkins, Missouri where he graduated from Hopkins High School in 1952. After high school, he joined the United States NAVY with who he served for 4 years, 2 of which were in Japan. After being discharged in 1958, he moved to Ft. Collins, CO. and lived in the greater Denver area before moving to Longview in 1978. He retired from Continental Can and Crown Cork and Seal after 32 years of service. A loving son, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Mr. Hewett was preceded in death by his father, and great nephew, Ryan Hewett. He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Hewett; his daughter, Cheryl Sollars, and husband Mike, and their three children, Brent, Brett, and Brittney all of Longview; son, Kirby Hewett and wife Darlene of Tyler, and their three children, Kirby, II of Longview, Kristy of Tyler, and Kerry of Dallas; great grandchildren, Kobee Hewett of Oklahoma, Makenzie Hewett of Tyler, and Arianna Hewett of Dallas. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Hewett and his wife Deanne of Ft. Collins, CO., and their three children, Linda, Bob, and Ron Hewett and their families; former wife, mother of his children, and life long friend and companion, Judith Light of Longview; stepchildren, Tammy Hall of Longview, Jim Taylor and his wife, Gayle of Colorado Springs, CO.; Step grandchildren, Luke and Hannah and their families of Colorado Springs, CO., Tiffany Hall of Ohio, and Robert Hall of Longview; step great grandchildren, Faith and Ashton of Ohio, and Blake, Mason, and Kyra of Ohio; as well as special friends, Brandon and Angie Beard and their son, Logan Peters who loved him like a father and grandfather.
Harold's generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to his family and friends. He lived his life with integrity and bravery. He fought hard and encouraged those around him to do the same.
The family would like to extend a very heart-felt "Thank You" to LifeCare Hospice and their staff for the compassion and love they showed to Mr. Hewett and his family. His nurse, Gayle Robinson went above the call of duty. Also, Anna Gonzales of East Texas Military Families was there for Mr. Hewett and his grandson, Kirby II who served in Iraq with the United States Marines. They would also like to express special "Thanks" to all of the friends and family who called everyday and/or dropped by to visit him, including his friends for more than 40 years, Dale and Sandy Wood and George and Minerva Bonham.
Honoring his request, cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
