Memorial services for H P Clifton, Jr., M.D. will be held 1:00 PM Friday, April 30, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Longview.
H P was born in Commerce, Texas in 1939 to H P Clifton, Sr. and Anne Draper Clifton. He spent his early years in Lubbock, where he graduated from Monterey High School and Texas Tech University. He graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1966.
A resident of Longview since 1972, H P was a pathologist with Pathology Association of Longview and Good Shepherd Medical Center for 21 years. Professional organizations to which he belonged include TMA, AMA, The American Society of Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathology, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society, and the Phi Rho Sigma medical fraternity. H P was also Medical Staff President at Good Shepherd Medical Center from 1989 to 1990.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Johnson Clifton; sister, Mary Anne Betancourt and her husband Lionel; daughters Rachel Geist and her husband Brent, Cynthia Read and her husband Ken, and Emily Clifton. Grandsons are Stephen and Jacob Geist; nephews are John Betancourt and Joseph Oliphant; nieces are Amanda and her husband Chris Levine, Andrea and her husband Roy Miles and Patricia Oliphant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury House Endowment Fund, 320 S. Center, Longview, TX 75601; the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International www.jdf.org or to the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org.
