Gerald Shipley
Funeral services for Gerald Shipley, 48, of Longview will be held at Twelve O?clock Noon Friday October 29, 2004 at the Greggton United Methodist Church with Reverend Lynne Settlemyre officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Shipley passed away Tuesday October 26, 2004 in Longview.
Gerald was born December 4, 1955 in Hereford, Texas. He was a 1974 graduate of Hereford High School where he was a member of the Varsity Basketball, National Honor Society, Key Club and Future Business Leaders of Agriculture Economics. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1978 with Bachelors in Agriculture Economics. While at Tech he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, Ag Economics Club and Block and Bridle.
He met his future wife while at Texas Tech and was later married on November 28, 1981. He began his career as a stockbroker for E. F. Hutton. He was then employed by Dowell Schlumberger for 18 Years. He was a member of the Greggton United Methodist Church.
Gerald?s passion in life was his family and coaching softball. He loved and cherished the time he spent on the softball filed coaching young ladies, especially his twin daughters. Gerald was an active member of the Longview Girls Softball Association. He volunteered his time in coaching, competitive fastpitch teams, helping young ladies learn how to pitch and managing softball tournaments. He was never too busy to help someone.
He was a wonderful coach and role model who touched countless lives.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, two daughters , Christy and Kelli Shipley of Longview, TX.; father and step-mother, Don and Verline Shipley of Amarillo, TX.; mother and step-father, Mary Tom and Mark Charles of El Paso, TX.; brother, Jeff Shipley of Dawn, TX.; sister, Gene Ann Kush of Dawn, TX.; nephews, Charley Shipley; Jerad Shipley; Jeff Shipley Louis Marasco, niece, Samantha Marasco.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday October 28, 2004 from 6pm until 8 pm.
