Gerald Douglas Fussell's Obituary
Gerald Douglas Fussell, age 59, of Henderson passed away on December 7, 2012, surrounded by his wife and daughters after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, he was an example of faith to his friends and family. A celebration of life will be held in his honor on Monday, December 10th, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Henderson with Dr. David Higgs officiating. He will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park .
Mr. Fussell was born September 28, 1953 to Guy Douglas and Dollie Belle Fussell in Minden , Louisiana . He served in the Navy from 1971-1975, and four days after being discharged, Gerald married his sweetheart of 37 years, Becky. Gerald retired after working 30 years as a technician with Texas Utilities, where he was revered as "the wise old man in the shop." He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and the friends he came to know in his Sunday school class strengthened him throughout the latter part of his life.
Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Dollie Belle Emerson Fussell and his brother Dennis Fussell.
He is survived by: his wife, Becky Fussell, daughters and sons-in-law, Casey and Greg Axelrod of Cypress, Texas; Kelly and Seth Gavin, of Cypress, Texas; and Carrie and Josh Bickley of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Grant & Emily Axelrod, Addie, Stewart, Charlie, & Ellie Gavin; his father, Guy Fussell of Minden, Louisiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Frank McNatt of Haughton, Louisiana; Sharon and Earl Walker of Homer, Louisiana; Sheila and Sam Austin of Paducah, Kentucky; sister Ginger Savage of Minden, Louisiana; and his close friend, David Clifton of Henderson, Texas.
