Gary Vinson Lovelace's Obituary
Gary Vinson Lovelace, 72, of Hallsville, Texas, passed away on August 14, 2025. Born in Longview, Texas, on July 31, 1953, to James and Betty Lovelace, Gary spent his early years in Atlanta, Texas, before moving to Hallsville in the 7th grade. There, his love for sports flourished as he played football and baseball where he built lifelong friendships.
On July 16, 1977, Gary married the love of his life, Trisha Gilstrap. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. A faithful follower of Christ, Gary was a devoted member of Alpine Church of Christ, where he served as both a Deacon and Elder. Gary began his career in education at White Oak ISD before returning to his beloved hometown of Hallsville. He faithfully served Hallsville ISD over 30 years as a coach, teacher, and administrator, impacting countless students and colleagues. He was honored as Distinguished Alumni of Hallsville ISD in 2016—a testament to his dedication and lasting influence.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gary bled purple for the Hallsville Bobcats and burnt orange for the Texas Longhorns. Gary’s proudest accomplishments were not on the field or in the classroom, but at home. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Trisha Lovelace; daughters and husbands Tara and David Rangel, and Lara and Ty Hood; and his four grandchildren, Christian and Aiden Rangel and Grant and McKenna Hood, who brought him immeasurable joy.
Gary will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, servant heart, and faith in Christ while touching countless lives through mentorship, encouragement, and friendship. After retiring, Gary volunteered at Caring and Sharing providing support to those in need and served as Alderman for the Hallsville City Council. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gregory Kauffman of MD Anderson, Dr. Sreeman Jampana, and the many dear friends who accompanied Gary to sporting events over the years.
Visitation will take place on Sunday August 17, 2025 from 3-5 PM at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, TX. Funeral services will be held Monday August 18, 2025 at 10 AM at Rader Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hallsville Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to the Hallsville Education Foundation or Caring and Sharing.
