Freddie W. Hammett's Obituary
Freddie Wayne Hammett was born in Levelland, TX on January 8, 1945 and passed away in Longview, TX on Friday, September 2, 2016.
Freddie began working for Hy-Chem Construction in 1964 in Longview, which later became “Caddo Construction” and was eventually bought out by Eastman Kodak. He worked for Eastman as a Capital Program Instructor until retiring in 2000. There are plenty of “firm foundations” at Eastman as Freddie’s motto was, “If it isn’t right, the concrete doesn’t get poured!” After his time ended at Eastman Freddie and his wife Sue enjoyed retirement. They enjoyed traveling and going camping in their R.V. with their friends. If you didn’t know where the group was camping, just roll down the window and listen for the laughter. It wouldn’t be long until you found the gang. He was an avid outdoors man, hunter, fisherman, farmer, carpenter, taxidermist and handyman. He was forced to slow down a little after suffering a broken ankle in a hunting accident, however it was going to take more than a broken ankle and being in a walking boot too stop him from doing the things he loved. Freddie loved his grandkids, his family, and watching the deer from his patio.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Margie Hammett.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Hammett of Hallsville, TX, his sister, Merleen Cowan of Ft. Worth, TX, his son, Donnie Hammett and wife Melissa of Hallsville, TX, his stepchildren; Craig Hensley and wife Tracey of Troy, AL, and Nita May and Husband David of Mt. Pleasant, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Trey Hammett, Makenzi Ross and husband Alex, Bailey Hammett and Cayden Hammett all of Hallsville, TX, Whitney Barron and husband Jason of Troy, AL, Tanner and Jessie Henley of Copperas Cove, TX, and Hunter and Mason May of Mt. Pleasant, TX. Great grandchildren; Sloan Hammett of Hallsville, TX, Landon and Chandler Barron of Troy, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will a service for Freddie at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Tuesday, September 6 at 3 pm with burial to follow at Memory Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation the night before at Rader Funeral Home between 5 and 7 in the evening.
