Fred Waldron Souerbry, III
Fred Waldron Souerbry, III, of Dallas and Longview, Texas died Friday August 29, 2014 at the Texas NeuroRehab Center in Austin, Texas after a lengthy illness.
Fred was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 31, 1938 to Fred Waldron Souerbry, Jr. and Dorothy Christine Swanson. He was 76 years old. He graduated from The Harvard School for boys Preparatory School in 1956 and from the University of Tennessee in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree in Transportation. He continued to pursue advanced certifications in the specialty fields of transportation.
Fred married Lynne Susan Josephson on June 29, 1963 in Homewood, IL. They celebrated 51 years of marriage this year. They resided in Flossmoor, IL before moving to Longview, TX in 1972. In 2004 they moved to Dallas, TX but remained active at Lake Cherokee in Longview, TX.
Fred was the founder and owner of Delta Tank Line Co. which specialized in transportation by rail. He started the company the same year that he was married. Fred had many passions and a great love for family and friends. He loved birds and prided himself on his vast knowledge of them. Several trips to Africa were a highlight for him as well as his annual trips to Big Bend, Texas. He had a great love for nature and the outdoors and was quite the people person. He never met a stranger and had a wonderful gift for conversation and vast store of Trivia which never ceased to amaze.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to carry on his legacy his wife, Lynne, and his daughter Sara Lynne Souerbry and her husband John William Speer of Austin, TX and 3 precious grandchildren Emma Souerbry Speer, and twins Ryan Souerbry Speer and Evan Souerbry Speer. He is survived by his sister Lynn Newman and her husband William of La Jolla, CA. and nephew Scott Frederick Kennedy and his wife Nita of Templeton, CA and their 3 daughters. Another daughter Susan Leigh Souerbry and husband James Hill Holmes, IV MD and their children Lane Souerbry Holmes and Dickinson Souerbry Holmes reside in Winston-Salem, NC.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Columbarium at Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, TX. with the Reverend David English officiating.
The family requests that memorials be made in his memory to Asbury House or Newgate Mission in Longview, TX or a charity of one’s choice. He was loved greatly and he will be missed forever.
