Rev. Frank Mackey Richardson Jr.'s Obituary
Rev. Frank M. Richardson, Jr. passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017, in Longview, Texas after an extended illness. He was 90 years of age.
Rev. Richardson was born in Paris, Texas on December 1, 1926. His parents were the Rev. Dr. Frank M. Richardson and Vera Fulton Richardson.
He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas from 1944-1952. While there he was very active in all facets of campus life and served in campus ministry organizations at the local, state, and national level. He received a B.S. in Education, a B.A. in Sociology, and an M.A. from the Perkins School of Theology.
During his many years in the active ministry in the Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Richardson pastored churches in Houston (Westminster, Beneke, and St. Mark’s United Methodist churches), Elkhart, Naples, Van, Atlanta, Kilgore, Baytown, and Nacogdoches. He also served as District Superintendent of the Tyler District of the United Methodist Church. In all these posts he was admired as a superb administrator and a caring pastor.
Rev. Richardson married Frances Ann (Fran) McCasland of McKinney, Texas in 1959. They had three children, Susanne, Kathleen, and Mackey. Mrs. Richardson was an energetic partner to Rev. Richardson in his ministry and served in many lay positions in the churches he pastored, as well as being a member of many civic organizations in the communities in which they served.
After Rev. Richardson’s retirement from the active ministry in 1993, he and Fran retired to Longview, Texas. They were very active members of First United Methodist Church of Longview where they attended the Newnham Sunday School Class. He served as a proud member and past president of the Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview.
Rev. Richardson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fran; and sisters Mary Margaret Sutton and Vera Belle Warren.
Survivors include a sister, Eloise Franklin; son, Mackey Richardson; daughter, Susanne Richardson Callender and husband Jay Callender; daughter, Kathleen Richardson Mullins and husband Dennis Mullins; grandchildren Ryan, Caitlynn, and Erin Mullins and Douglas, Mary, and Anna Callender; and Mallory Richardson.
Special thanks are given by the family to Rev. Richardson’s caregivers Dawn Hardee, Melany McDaniel, Heather McCarver, Leann Estes, and Katy Vaughan. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Heartis Assisted Living Center where Rev. Richardson resided for the last 2 ½ years.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Longview at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 with Dr. Roy James officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 29th from 3 – 5 PM. The family asks that memorial gifts be given to First United Church of Longview.
