Frank Louis Reese's Obituary
Frank Louis Sonny Reese, 79, in the twinkling of an eye, passed from this life into eternity to be with his Savior and Lord on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Funeral services will be held at two o'clock p.m. On Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Gum Springs Christian Church on Gum Springs Road in Longview, with Rev. Scott Schulik officiating. Lifetime friend, Wesley Dollahite, will share memories with friends and relatives. Interment will follow at the Gum Springs Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Reese was born on May 28, 1931 and resided in the Gum Springs community all of his life. He was a graduate of Hallsville High School and served in the United States Marine Corp for two years. He married Bobbie Tompkins in 1954. Frank worked for Texas & Pacific Railway for six years. He retired from Texas Eastman after 32 ½ years of service. Upon retirement, Frank and Bobbie enjoyed reading, traveling, and genealogy. He also enjoyed fishing with his close friend, and fellow retiree, Lloyd Forsyth.
He and his wife were involved in their community, including the starting of the Gum Springs Water Supply Corporation. Frank also served many years as president of the Gum Springs Cemetery Association. He attended Little Flock Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jane Tompkins in 2005; his brother, Charles Reese, and his parents, Charles and Jodie Reese. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Nell Reese of Longview, sister, Jo Ann Mickle of Garland, and nephews, Randall Reese and Bob Reese of Longview, along with several other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for Frank during his illness. A special thanks to family doctor and friend, Dr. Rodney Slone and to the staff of Texas Home Health Hospice for their compassionate care.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home on February 15, 2011 from 5 – 7 p.m.
