Evelyn Viola "Susie" Duckworth Figley's Obituary
Services for Evelyn "Susie" Figley, 67 of Hallsville, will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2pm, with a visitation preceding at 1pm. Susie peacefully went to be with her Lord Jesus in the early hours of Wednesday morning surrounded by her loving family.
Susie was born on August 15, 1948 in Longview TX, to parents Edgar and Evelyn Duckworth. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1968 and a few months later married the love of her life, James Figley, on July 12, 1968. Susie kept in touch with her fellow Spring Hill Alumni through the Alumni Association, and became a member of the Spring Hill Girls who would gather for lunch once a month. Susie always looked forward to these gatherings.
Following High School, Mrs. Susie became a caretaker of children. The majority of her time was spent babysitting, working in the church nursury, and teaching at Mother's Day Out. She later became a full-time pre-school teacher. Children were a very big part of her life. She affectionately viewed all the children she cared for as her own, cared for each whole-heartedly, and took great joy in seeing their achievements and accomplishments. Upon retiring from Kid Connection Christian Pre-School, Susie cherished all of the time she could spend with her family. She and James spent many hours driving around East Texas, enjoying each other and God's wondrous Creation. Their joy was multiplied when Grandchildren were along to enjoy these rides with them. These days often also included attending one of their grandchildren's sporting events. The Grandchildren always looked forward to staying with her and spending time in “MawMaw’s Pocket”.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Evelyn; 2 sisters, Gertrude Gibbs and Delores Davis; her son-in-law Terry Blakney; and an infant she never got to hold. Those remaining to cherish their memories of Susie include her husband of 47 years, James Figley; her daughters, Rhonda Blakney, Amanda Mettler and her husband Jason, and Monica Sherman and her husband Wade; grandchildren Trever Blakney, Stephanie Monk, Kayla Monk, Joseph Monk, Jacob Mettler, Brenna Mettler, Nathan Mettler, Cohle Sherman, Mason Sherman, and Luke Sherman; 3 brothers, Clarence Duckworth, Tommy Duckworth, and Jimmy Duckworth; Susie will also be remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Ms. Susie was always proud of all of "her" children.
