I just read today of Coach Blalock's passing. It is with a heavy heart that I sit here typing this message. However, it is with a joyous heart that I sit here remembering her and all that she did for me. I was just a young man when I met Coach Blalock. We met in the councelors office when i was changing my major at Kilgore College. She asked me to be the manager for the girls basketball team, and I accepted. I spent the next two years working closely and learning vigorously with Coach. She is one of the main reasons I am a coach today. Thank you Coach, I know you will be missed by all. Coach Blalock will forever be remembered in my family. She was not only my "Coach" on the court - she was a mentor, friend and yes, a "mother" off the court. The greatest gift an athlete can receive from a coach is the guidance and direction to achieve ones full potential. What a wonderful gift being able to discover you have more to give within yourself than you ever thought possible. I was fortunate to be one of the many recipients of this treasured gift given by Evelyn. My prayers and wonderful memories are with your family and the "Lady Ranger" family.
