Elton Jay Simpson's Obituary
Elton Jay Simpson went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 30, 2018. He was born on February 11, 1954 in Dallas, Texas to Addison “Speck” and Elvada Simpson.
Elton graduated from Texas A & M University, Class of 1977 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Eastman Chemical Company for 32 years. He was married to the love of his life and fellow Aggie, Stancy Akers Simpson on May 20, 1978. They recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
Elton was very active in Boy Scouts with Troop 201. He faithfully served at First United Methodist Church in Longview for many years. He loved traveling, especially to Aggie Football games. He enjoyed working with the children at Terrific Tuesday at Wesley-McCabe UMC, an after school program. Elton also enjoyed working with the Robotic Team at Foster Middle School. He was an avid marksman however, his family never let him forget the time he shot the air conditioner in the dark as he tried to protect their home from an unwelcome raccoon!
Elton was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Cliff Akers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Chris Simpson of Longview, brother, Rodney Simpson and wife Brenda of Quitman, mother-in-law, Bobbie Akers of Longview, sisters–in-law, Linda Akers of Irving, Merri Hardin and husband Randy of Borger, brother-in-law, Paul Akers and wife Wendi of Richmond, dear friends, Steve and Sharon Coe and family and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 3rd at Rader Funeral Home from 4-6 pm. Funeral Services will be Monday, June 4th at 10 am at First United Methodist Church in Longview. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church, Longview, Texas.
