Ellen Cobb Tompkins
Funeral services for Ellen Cobb Tompkins, 79, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Reverend Keith Lybrand officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. She passed away Monday July 2, at her residence in Longview.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Tompkins was born March 2, 1933 in Waco, TX to Richard and Amanda Cobb and had been a resident of Longview since 1942.
After spending many years as a dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Tompkins earned her Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education degree at Stephen F. Austin University.
She was a first grade teacher at Pine Tree ISD for 25 years and was proud of her professional accomplishments, which include Outstanding Regional Conservation Teacher, Who's Who of American Teachers, Lead Teacher, and was voted Teacher of the Year by the Pine Tree ISD.
Describing her, are these treasured words written by her beloved husband of 54 years, "Anyone that really knows you would see a very spiritual Christian Lady who loves what God put here for us to enjoy, loves to travel and see different places, people, and things, disdaining worldly pleasures, but most of all loves her husband, family and friends above anything else.:
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Tompkins; parents; her brothers, Morris, Milton, and Jim Cobb.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Gwen Gates of Midland; daughters, Donna Keller and husband Ken of Valencia, CA and Elaine Palmer and husband Gene of Union Grove; son Rob Tompkins and wife Yonna of Frisco; grandchildren, Ben Johnson and wife Shannon, Bryan Cox and wife Kelly, Brandon Johnson, Matthew Tompkins, Elizabeth Faulkner and husband Chris, and Amanda Tompkins; and great grandchildren, Drew, Cade, Kacie, Ellie, Scarlett, Kendall and Asher.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ellen Tompkins Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Pine Tree Schools Business office, P.O. Box 5878, Longview, TX 75608.
