Dr. Charles Chic Bachtel's Obituary
Dr Charles "Chic" Bachtel died Wednesday, December 5 in the afternoon surrounded by friends and family.
Dr. Bachtel began his Longview dental practice in 1963 and practiced until his hospitalization in June of this year.
He was born in Buckhannon West Virginia on February 16, 1933. He married Jean Gillies while serving in the United States Air Force as a dental technician and trumpet player in various military bands. After his discharge from the Air Force, he acquired his dental degree from the University of Louisville in 1961 with highest academic honors.
Ater completing and internship with the United States Public Health Services in Fort Worth, Dr. Bachtel and his wife brought their three children to work, live and grow in Longview for the ensuing 50 years.
Dr, Bachtel had an acclaimed and illustrious dental career highlighted by his two nominations for the Academy of General of Dentistry's "Texas Dentist of the Year" award; his co-founding with Dr. Perry Hollembeak of the Ark-La-Tex Academy of Dentistry and his membership in The Southwest Academy of Dentistry. His leadership in the East Texas Dental community and his professional example to so many younger dentists will be sorely missed.
Dr. Bachtel is survived by his wife Jean, his two daughters Debrah and Allyson; his four siblings, Claudia, Joe, Rick and George; as well as his three grand-daughters, Kendra, Danielle and Lorna. He is restored to his son David, who died tragically in February of 1984.
A Celebration of His Life will be today, Saturday, 12/8/12 at Rader Funeral Home, Longview starting at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you make a donation to your favorite charity.
