Dorothy Scott's Obituary
A memorial service for Dorothy "Dottie" Scott , 85, formerly of Longview, will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 15, 2009 in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Longview with Rev. Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Entombment will be at Lakeview Mausoleum. Mrs. Scott died peacefully January 8, 2009 in Dallas.
She was born April 17, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Hyatt in New Orleans. In 1943 she married Samuel Scott and graduated from Newcomb College in 1944. After living in Shreveport, California, and San Antonio, the Scott family moved to Longview in 1951 upon completion of Dr. Scott's residency.
Mrs. Scott spent the early years of her marriage rearing four children and was active in the Camelia Garden Club, Service League, Medical Auxiliary and a weekly Bible Club. Upon the death of her husband in 1985, she remained involved enjoying her friends, family, and garden. After 54 years in Longview, Mrs. Scott , due to health concerns, moved to Dallas to be closer to her family. To the end, she kept plants and flowers directly in her sight.
She is survived by daughters Joan Scott Curtis of Denton and Judy Scott Spangler of Dallas; sons-in-law, Marshall Spangler and Daniel Stern; grandchildren Alicia Curtis Watson, Mark Curtis, John Curtis, Jenny Curtis, Matthew Curtis, and Bryan Hughes; great-grandchildren Nola Hughes, Alyssa, Jordan, and Kiera Watson, Samantha, Dylan, Austin, and Colby Curtis.
Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home Wednesday, January 14th 6 to 8 pm.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 4425 W. Airport Freeway, Suite 130 in Irving, TX 75062 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
