Dorothy Gray's Obituary
A celebration of life service for Dorothy Marie Baughman Gray, age 91, of Fort Worth, formerly of Henderson, will be held Saturday September 8, 2012 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Kuydendall officiating. Interment will be at Rusk County Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy was born August 16, 1921 in Rusk County to Arthur E. and Leona Wellborn Baughman. She died September 5, 2012 in Fort Worth.
Dorothy taught math at Henderson High School for over forty years. She received her Bachelor's degree in math from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1942. She returned to SFA and earned a Master's degree in Secondary Education in 1952. She received several National Science Foundation grants for summer educational programs at various Texas universities, including the University of Texas and SFA. She loved travelling around America and she had a special place in her heart for animals.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Oscar James Gray who was died on June 12, 1944 during the D-Day invasion, her parents, brother A.E. Baughman Jr. of Henderson, son-in-law Joseph Frank Stringer and infant great-granddaughter Phoenix Dorothea Stringer both of Fort Worth, brother- and sister-in-law Martin and Nina Garsee of New London, and brothers-in-law Hayden Hicks of Hide-Away Lake and Doyle Gray of McAlister, Oklahoma.
Survivors include her daughter Alyce Gray Stringer, grandchildren Ellen Stringer Browning, husband Benjamin Thomas Browning, and their daughter Emory Marie, Joel Franklin Stringer and daughter Britney Elizabeth Cunningham, and Matthew James Gray Stringer, all of Fort Worth. Brother and sister-in-law William E. Baughman and wife Clara Crim Baughman of Henderson, sister-in-laws Ruth Gray Hicks of Hide-Away Lake and Pansy T. Gray of Tulsa Oklahoma, and brother- and sister-in-law Winston and Laverne Gray of Purcell, Oklahoma. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and nephew Michael Baughman and wife Beverly of Henderson, who had a very special relationship with Dorothy through the years.
Visitation will be from 1pm ~ 3pm Saturday before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or the Humane Society.
