Dorothy Davis Cannon's Obituary
Services for Dorothy Davis Cannon, age 86, of Longview will be held at First Christian Church in Longview on Saturday, August 17, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to service. Interment will follow services at Memory Park Cemetery.
Dorothy Davis Cannon was born on November 17, 1926 in Greenville, TX and passed away on August 14, 2013 in Longview, TX. She is survived by her daughters; Sharon Atkins –Philip, Shelley Frederick - former husband, Mark. Grandchildren; Thomas Jack Hilton - Elena, Nicole Atkins-Johnson - Will, Adam Atkins - Teresa, Heidi Frederick, Bret Frederick – Suzie. and 8 great-grandchildren . Her sister-in-law, Mary Davis, Aunt Louise Love – nieces, nephews, and many children who she loved as her own. She was pre-ceded in death by her husband, of 62 years, Robert.
Dorothy graduated from North TX State and moved to Longview in 1947, taught at White-Oak ISD and in the Longview ISD until 1987. She also co-managed Shade-Wood Saddle Club with her husband in the 50's, She was past president of the Longview Federated Clubs, named Woman of the Year, 2005, Regent and Past President of Aaron Burleson Chapter of the DAR, Past –President TSTA, TX Retired Teachers Association, Life member of PTA,, selected Teacher of the Year by her peers. She was a member of 1st Christian Church of Longview, Mom's in Touch, Shakespeare Club an active volunteer at Gregg County Museum,, Bethany House . Devoted Bible student and mentor of many students who were always recalled by name.
Serving as pall bearers will be Thomas Hilton, Adam Atkins, Will Johnson, Bret Frederick, Martin Alamanza and Casey Williams.
