Donald J. Peters
Funeral services for Donald J. Peters, 76 of Longview, formerly of Kilgore will be held at Two O'clock pm Thursday March 4, 2010 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road with Reverend Darwood Galaway and Reverend Ralph Rudy officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Park Mausoleum. Mr. Peters passed away Tuesday March 2, 2010 in Longview.
Mr. Peters was born January 14, 1934 in Tyler, Texas to Donald Grayson and Ann Robinson Peters. He received his primary education in Tyler Public Schools. He was an Honor graduate at Tyler Junior College and also an Honor graduate at University of Texas at Austin. He then earned his Masters Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and he completed work beyond the masters at East Texas State University.
Don began his professional career in the Marshall Independent School District as a history teacher. He was promoted to assistant junior high school principal in 1960 and principal in 1961. In January 1964 he became administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Marshall Independent School District. In 1967 he joined the staff of Region V11 as assistant director. On July 1, 1978 he was named Executive Director of the Center, where he remained until his retirement on August 31, 1993. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Rita Jackson Peters of Longview; two daughters, Alicia Peters Hipke and husband Matt of Longview; Angie Peters DeNike of Houston, TX.; son Ron Peters and wife Leigh of Nova Scotia Canada; four grandchildren, Nicklaus Peters and wife Ramona, Roger Peters, Jordan DeNike and DeLaney DeNike, great-grandson, Grayson Peters one sister, Diana Myrick and husband Ken of Gladewater.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Rebecca Peters and his parents, Don G. and Ann Peters.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday March 3, 2010 from 7-9 pm.
