Dolly Marie Brinkley Johnson's Obituary
Mrs. DOLLY MARIE BRINKLEY JOHNSON, the last survivor born to the late Albert and Bessie Brinkley was born on November 3, 1922, in Hallsville, Texas. She was affectionately known as “Madear" to her family. Her earthly journey ended when the Lord called her home on Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023.
Mrs. Johnson was wedded to Walter Johnson, Jr. who preceded her in death on April 27, 2009, at the age of ninety. Together they nurtured a family that included nine children. Also preceding her in death two daughters, Bessie Louise Johnson, and Dian Boyd; and a son, Bernard Terrance Johnson.
She was a faithful member of the Harrison Street Church of Christ.
Everyone who loved Dolly knew that she was always ready for a good conversation. Her witty sense of humor was captivating and had a unique way of making others laugh. Even into her late nineties she remained sharp-minded. She was fond of telling stories, giving account of accomplishments of her family, the Brinkley heritage, current events, favorite recipes, and television shows (Wheel of Fortune and Judge Judy).
Cooking was her passion. Dolly's kitchen was always open and filled with delectable aromas of food to eat in and takeout. Additionally, gardening was a hobby. She grew flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees (figs, pomegranates, pears, dates, and peaches). Preserving these fruits and vegetables for family and friends was a pleasurable time for her.
The medical team admired her fighting spirit because she always had the ability to make them smile.
She will be missed tremendously!
Survivors to treasure her everlasting love: four daughters: Doris Hubbard, Dallas, TX, Mamie Swinton, Arlington, TX, Johnetta Johnson, San Francisco, CA, and Dinia Johnson, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two sons: Major L W Johnson, AUS Retired, Carrollton, TX, Wayne D.
