Memorial services for D. H. Rainey, 88, of Longview, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Valley View Baptist Church, with the Reverends Andrew Parker and Tim Lindsay officiating. Entombment at Memory Park Mausoleum will precede the memorial service in a private family ceremony. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Rainey died Sunday evening, January 27, 2008, at his home..
He was born September 27, 1919 in Marietta, Texas to Dewey Henry and Caroline Channell Rainey. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a long-time member of Valley View Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Rainey was known as a quiet, caring man of integrity and was loved by those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Meltry Rainey in 2002. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Beverly Rainey of Longview, Jackie Self of Longview and Celeste and Andrew Parker of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, Opal McBeth of Longview; brother and sisters-in-law, Roy and Evelyn Whitehurst, Jewel Whitehurst and Audrey Rainey, all of Longview; grandchildren and their spouses, Kristy and Keith Johnson of Tyler, Jason and Christy Self of Kilgore; Christopher and Rainey Parker of Tulsa; great-grandchildren Kyle and Katrina Johnson of Tyler and Joshua Self of Kilgore; and many nieces and nephews.
