Jan-you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. I am so glad that several years ago Dave re-dedicated his life to our Lord Jesus. But I still miss him very much. I have so many fond memories of growing up with my big brother. To name a few, Dave taught me how to throw and catch a baseball, how to fish, how to ride and maintain a motorcycle, how to golf and how to use my Red Rider BB gun that he gave me when I was 10. Dave often took me along when he went somewhere with his high school buddy Bill (fishing, snow skiing, to the carnival, etc.) and I thought that was so cool. When I was very sick in the hospital 33 years ago I received a phone call NFL hall of famer Bart Starr. I’m sure Dave arranged that call but Dave would never admit it. As we became older and lived far apart I remained very close to Dave and we often talked on the phone. I am very glad that I was with Dave during the last 3 days of his life on earth and talk to him and I know he heard me and I feel honored and blessed that I could help Jan care for Dave.

I miss you my friend, but I KNOW that you are in a better place. It is so comforting to know that since Jan, Melanie, Jeanna and I have given our hearts and our lives to Jesus, we will all be together again with you some day. What a wonderful promise and assurance we have because we were born again, as you were, in the Lord. Leave a light on for us!

I first met Dave when he was passing through Albuquerque on business in 2005. My husband, Jack (Willmas) made reservations at PaPa Felipas and we joined Dave for dinner that night. He was a joy to get to know and had many stories he shared of his travels and work. I remember him just as the photograph depicts attached to this website--a big warm smile and very genuine! He was a loving man to his family and he will be missed by so many. I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet him, spend Christmas time/visit, and be a part of my family. He also ran the movie camera at Jack's and my wedding. The last visit we had with Dave was this past June (2014) on our way home from a Florida vacation -- when Jack and I walked into the room he called out our names. He listened and shared with us even then. It was just like him to always make you feel welcome. Deborah J. Willmas

I have many fond memories of good times Dave and I shared. One of the first ones occurred just before both of our weddings. We were out on the town with Jan and my fiancee Nancy. After dropping them off at their homes, Dave and I decided we needed a last fling before tying the knot. His sister was in Guatemala at the time. We were on our motorcycles and it was a nice evening so we decided to head to Guatemala to see his sister. As it turned out, the influence of the alcohol we had consumed earlier had worn off, and we turned around at La Crosse, WI and headed back to Appleton, where I was renting a room at the time, and spent the night there. So we didn't quite make it to Guatemala. However, both of our mothers got wind of this and confiscated our motorcycle keys to ward off a repeat performance.
Dave was not a bother-in-law to me, but a brother. He is surely missed! I am sure there is a Sheepshead game going on in heaven right now!
