David M. Lawson's Obituary
David Lawson was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, November 28, 1925 and passed into the presence of His Savior February 13, 2016. He married his sweetheart Jean Hall February 5, 1945 and they began a 71 year adventure together. He was a life-long educator, not only of academics but also of personal relationships. He loved people and was known for his encouraging support of both young and old. In 1964 he moved the family to Longview, Texas to join the faculty and staff of LeTourneau College. Later he continued in the education field at Kilgore College from where he retired.
Dad was always willing and available to be involved in local churches. Most of his adult life he filled-in at churches as Interim pastor. He had a love for the local church and was an active part of Oakland Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jean Hall Lawson, daughter Cathey (Steve) Hare, sons David (Peggy Allen) Lawson and Rodney Lawson; grandchildren Paul (Brittney) and Joel (Camille) Lawson, Andrew (Dana), Matthew (Becky) Lawson, Alexandra Lawson, four great grandchildren, Ashton, Paeton, Keirstyn and Kennedy Grace and sister Martha Lawson.
The family would like to thank the many who cared for our dad over the past five years – but especially Carol, Reva, Shell and Shonda and the staff of Hospice of East Texas. Please consider giving to Hospice of East Texas or Highway 80 Rescue Mission in lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home Thursday, February 18, from 6-8 pm and Celebration of his life at Oakland Heights Baptist at 1:00 pm Friday, February 19 with Pastors Kevin Bright and Butch Tanner.
