I was blessed to have Coach Graham as my track and football coach during my time at Pine Tree Junior High School. Those teenage years weren’t always easy, but Coach Graham was a constant source of love, patience, and positivity that I needed in my life. He would go out of his way to pick me up from home in the mornings, making sure I got to practice on time and even providing breakfast. He kept an eye on my academics and, more than anything, believed in me when so many others didn’t.

Looking back now, I realize just how much he gave and how deeply he cared. Though I might not have fully appreciated it as a teenager, I love him for it now, and I thank God for bringing him into my life at that time. I don’t know where I’d be without him.

Today, as a First Sergeant in the Army after 20 years of service, I often find myself echoing his words to encourage my Soldiers: "Now we’re cooking with propane!"

What a wonderful human being. No matter what type of problem a student had I always knew that I could go to Dan and he would be compassionate, and helpful no matter how difficult the circumstances. How many people are like that? He was loving and always seem to know what to do to make a student feel cared for and to help them make good decisions.

I was a a Junior in 1963 when Coach Graham came to Pine Tree. My dad was Coach Ervin Clay and Dan was just out of college and was still wearing his Memphis State jacket. They hit it off immediately. In 1979 my dad was in Baylor hospital with terminal cancer. Coach Graham was with us during that whole terrible day. The waiting room was full of families who were waiting for their loved ones to pass. A very sad place. Dan had a very unusual sense of humor and during the next 28 hours he had everyone laughing. He wouldn't leave any of us. Coach was not sad because he knew the end wasn't the end.
I loved him and so did my dad.

I have many memories of this man♥️but wanted to share the most recent from last May at my Mom’s Birthday celebration. It meant the world for us to see & visit with Coach & Ms Jane. Will miss him 🙏🏻but he will remain in our hearts ♥️forever

My prayers go out to the family of Coach Graham with his passing. He was a great coach, but a better man. I loved that man for all the support he gave me the 3 years I played for him. He was more like a father to me and I have never forgotten his support during those early years of my life. Our teams would have jumped in front of a Mack truck for him. He always treated everyone with respect & dignity. I am just proud to say I was one of many young kids he molded into young men & husbands. I know he’ll be looking down at all his family & friends from Heaven with that never smiling smirk on his face. He is and was, one of a kind and thank the Lord that for a little while he was in my life. Thanks Coach, I’ll never forget your support back then, when I needed it most. You’re in my heart, forever. Coach Dan Graham was more than a coach, more than a teacher, more than just a good man. He was a great man and a father figure to so many. Occasionally God brings people into your life at just the right time. Such was the case when Dan Graham became the Head Football coach at SH just as I was entering HS. I don't know that I've ever looked up to someone and respected anyone as much, other than my own father and my father-in-law. I have heard it said that quiet leaders are the best, and Coach Graham was definitely a quiet leader, often misunderstood by many. But rest assured, those of us that had the privilege of knowing what was inside that man were blessed by his presence. I don't know that I've ever had a male tell me more times that he loved me more than Dan Graham. He is the reason I, along with so many others that I went to school with, became coaches.....to be like Coach Graham. What an honor to have played under his leadership and to have known him later in life as a man. Thanks for the legacy you have left on this earth Coach and thanks for pouring into so many. You will forever be remembered. Job well done, but then again, I'm sure the Good Lord has already told you that. Love you Coach. May you Rest In Peace forever.

Coach Graham was such a light in high school for me and many others. He lived out his faith and always was approachable with anything. He introduced me to FCA which i am grateful for. He also asked me to do a charcoal drawing of a steer wrestler my junior year of high school which really brought us closer. Grateful for Coach Graham and his life well lived. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
