Clayton Benjamin Merwin's Obituary
Clayton Benjamin Merwin, 84 a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born on February 28, 1929 in Middletown, NY to the late Clyde and Lillian Merwin. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Clay worked for International Business Corporation IBM for 33 years. He moved from New York to Florida, then to Colorado and back to Florida before settling in Longview TX for the past couple decades.
He and his beloved Martha were married in Endicott, NY July 14, 1956. They had two children Karen Louise Merwin now McNutt and Jerry Clayton Merwin. Eight grandchildren survive Mr. Merwin: Asher, Andrew, Angelo, and Alex McNutt of Denver, CO and Rachel Merwin–Wilkerson, Michelle, David, and Jonathan Merwin of Longview, TX. Two great-grandchildren survive him: Mickey Wilkerson and Aneiya McNutt. He is also survived by his sister Carol Behringer and her husband Walter Behringer of Pittsborough NC, and his sister-in-law Patricia Wallace of Endicott, NY.
Mr. Merwin died quietly in his home on Wednesday afternoon with his wife, son, and their dog Murphy. Clay loved to read – especially the Bible and was knowledgeable on numerous subjects. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and travelled often – sometimes combining the two.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 1st from 6 – 8 pm at Rader Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10 am Tuesday, July 2nd at Longview First Assembly of God with Rev.
