Cheryl Strait Fountain's Obituary
Cheryl Strait Simpson Fountain
Cheryl Strait Simpson Fountain Nanny, Mom, Cheryl Lynn to her family freed from the clutches of a diseased body passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 28, 2009. She was 64 years and 5 months old. She was fiercely independent and fought courageously against the pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer that took her life. Visitation is Friday, January 30 from 5-8 pm at Rader Funeral Home. Services are set for Saturday, January 31, at 10 am at Spring Hill Assembly of God with Pastor Ronnie Shipman officiating.
Cheryl was born in Dyess, Arkansas on August 15, 1944 to Clinton and Dorothy Strait. The Strait family moved to Longview in 1953, where Cheryl lived most of her life. She graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1962. She was an honor student and participated in sports, volleyball being her favorite. At the time of her death, she was employed by LeTourneau Technologies, where she worked in steel sales for the past 15 years.
Cheryl's "green thumb" was evident at the many plants thriving in her house. She was an excellent seamstress and cook and her favorite pastime was spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was loving and generous, even sending us to buy little thank-you gifts for hospital staff members during the last weeks of her life.
She will be greatly missed but her memory is forever etched in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her children: daughter Cheri Norvell, son Bryan Simpson and his wife Shelley, son Greg Simpson and his wife MaryAnn, and daughter Angela Humphrey; by her grandchildren Melissa Ashby, Whitney Ashby, Jarrod Simpson, Haley Simpson, Ben Simpson, Derrick Humphrey, Tyler Humphrey and Valorie Humphrey; by her two great-grandchildren, the delight of her life who she called "Joe and O", Joe and Olivia Healan; and by her children's "dad-o" Norm Simpson. She is survived by six brothers and sisters: Jerry Strait and wife Sue, Buddy Strait and companion Sherry, Carol Strait, Ron Strait and wife Sue, Anita Sandifer and husband Byron and Steve Strait and wife Donna, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the awesome nurses and staff on the East Tower IMC Unit and A400 Oncology at Good Shepherd Medical Center. We express our deepest appreciation for the phenomenal treatment by Dr. Frase and Texas Oncology Center, and to Christy Black and the amazing Margaret's House. Memorials may be made to Margaret's House/Beacon Hospice, PO Box 5908, Longview TX 75608.
