Charley Best's Obituary
Charles Lewis Best passed away December 28, 2004 at his home in Longview,
TX. He was born October 21, 1953 in Homer, LA.
Charley endured a 5-year battle with esophageal cancer and displayed a quiet
strength that carried him through his illness. He is remembered as a
patient, loving and generous husband, father, son and brother that could
brighten any occasion with his humor and infinite kindness.
Charley graduated from Marshall High School in 1972 and earned his bachelors
degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1976. While attending
Stephen F. Austin he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He was the owner
and operator of Best Carpet One in both Marshall and Longview TX, serving as
a fabulous salesman since 1988. In 2004 Charley was named ?Boss of the Year? by the Marshall Chamber of Commerce.
A culinary wizard, he was frequently seen stooped over stove or grill, cooking for family and friends. He was the choice chef at most any family gathering at Lost Creek, the family's acreage near Hallsville. His specialty was gumbo.
Charley loved traveling, riding horses and listening to his favorite type of
music - blues.
He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Longview.
Charley is survived by his wife Connie Miller Best; children Lindsay and
Blake; brother Michael Best and niece Haley Best; parents Lewis and Ruby
Honey Best; Father and Mother-in-law Albert and Wanda Miller; numerous nieces and nephews, and one special great-niece Morgan Miller.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Irma Williams and
Homer and Bessie Best.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 29 at Rader
Funeral Home. Services will be held at noon Thursday, December 30 at First
United Methodist Church of Longview.
Burial will follow at Rosewood Park of Longview at 2 p.m. Serving as
Pallbearers will be Mark Moseley, Barry Maines, Jimmy Roberts, Richard
DeYoung, Fred Montalvo, David Hiett and Jimmy Byrd.
