The first time I met my Uncle Charles was when he drove all the way up from Texas to Connecticut for his big brother's funeral (that would be my Uncle George). I was already in my 20's at the time, and had only heard the most wonderful, adventurous stories of this man, all told to me by my Mom. This was her baby brother, whom she adored. Not only did they look so much alike, but their voices were so similar too. I'll never forget how excited I was to finally meet him! I immediately could tell what a kind, loving person he was - a true gentleman. Uncle Charles then drove up to NY twice (with his grandson Joseph as his travelling buddy) - once to surprise my Mom for her birthday. It was a wonderful day, a family reunion of sorts, with so many family members in attendance. The fact that he would drive all that way, at his age, just for my Mom, astounded her. That was the special man he was. I've never had the chance to meet the rest of my Texas family, but I want to thank them, especially my Aunt Sandy, for loving this special man & for taking such good care of him. He loved his family, his pets (which were a part of the family), the state of Texas and Entenmann's crumb cake. I will forever feel the warmth of his love wherever I go. I love you, my dear Uncle Charles.
