Charles H. Carothers
II Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
In loving memory of Charles H. Carothers, born January 27, 1936 in Lampasas, Texas to Laurence and Fayee Carothers. Charles grew up in Houston, then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. On June 13, 1959, he married Pat Jones and they moved to Bloomington, Indiana where Charles worked as a design engineer for the Westinghouse Corporation. He was a brilliant electrical engineer, and was credited with 11 U.S. patents during his time with Westinghouse. During his and Pat's 25 years in Bloomington, their two daughters, Cindy and Alice, were born. Charles served as a deacon at Bloomington Baptist Church, PTA President and on the Board of several community organizations.
In 1984, Charles and Pat returned to Texas and settled in Longview. For the past 22 years, he has been a very involved member and deacon at Mobberly Baptist Church. Over the years, he has been known by several names: Charlie, Chuck, Bro. Charles, Charles and Dad. But lately, and what has brought him so much joy, is the name --Grandad. Charles is blessed with seven grandchildren and has been a role model for them, as well as their biggest fan in all their endeavors.
Charles' life has been an inspiration to many people. Devotion to God and family have been his lifelong priorities. Among Charles? many fine qualities was his uncanny ability to relate to people. He immediately put people at ease with his friendly smile and inviting personality. Even during his long struggle with cancer, he focused more on being an encourager than on being encouraged.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Pat and their two daughters and their families: Mark and Cindy Loughmiller of Tyler, and children--Megan, Rachel, Matthew and Jacob; Chad and Alice Thompson of Longview, and children--Tara, Tanner and Truman. Also his wonderful 96 year old mother, Fayee Carothers and his siblings and their families: Larry Carothers, Patricia Stout and Rose Evans. He is preceded in death by his father, Laurence Reagan Carothers.
