Carolyn Miller Bryant's Obituary
Carolyn Miller Bryant left us on October 17, 2020. Carolyn was born September 27, 1933 to Joe Carmichael and Mamie Hughes Miller in Gruver Texas. She was the youngest of six children with siblings Fred, Jay, Maxine, Lou, and Opal. Carolyn’s mother died before she was seven years old. Her father raised Carolyn to adulthood, with lots of assistance from Carolyn’s older sisters and her mother’s sister Aunt Fay. Carolyn loved and thought the world of her daddy.
After completing high school in Gruver, she attended Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical University, now Oklahoma State University. She returned to Gruver and met the love of her life, Loyd W. Bryant. They married in 1957 and had two daughters, Jana and Jill. Carolyn was the ultimate mother and wife, caring for everyone. Loyd and Carolyn lived in Gruver before Loyd’s job moved him to Laverne, OK, and then to Guymon, OK. After sharing a weekender cabin at Lake Cherokee for several years, they retired and moved to a home in Longview, TX, close to the grandsons’ school and proceeded to spoiled them properly.
Wherever Loyd and Carolyn lived, they were active members of a United Methodist Church and volunteered in the community. Carolyn helped with school trips and activities, worked at food/clothing ministries, led Methodist Women’s Group, went on Mission trips to South Louisiana, helped prepare meals and worked the annual garage sale for Asbury House in Longview, Texas, and prepared Christmas stockings for underprivileged children.
Carolyn loved her family and to travel. She and Loyd took numerous trips and cruises, many including other family members. These included camping when young, trips to Alaska when Jill’s family lived there, and many other trips with their daughters’ families including Disney, California, Alaska, Canada, New England, and Hawaii. These were special times for the family.
Surviving Carolyn are her husband Loyd W. Bryant of Longview, TX; their children Jana and Clyde Clubb of Longview, TX and their sons Aaron Clubb of Plano, TX and Matthew Clubb of Ft. Worth, TX; and Jill and Michael Brunson of Harlingen, TX and their children Sheena and Aaron Akridge and their sons Zachary and Chase Akridge all of New Braunfels, TX; sisters Lou Harvey of Spearman, TX, Opal Wallin of Gruver, TX, and special sister-in-law Geraldene (Toady) Bryant Bebb of Oklahoma City, OK; and many nephews and nieces she held dear.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt Fadie Nicholson; her sister Maxine; brothers Fred and Jay; sisters-in-law Henny Miller, Beth Miller, Mildred Bryant, and Palma Bryant; and brothers-in-law Oliver Wallin, T.C. Harvey, Forrest Bebb, Dwane Bryant, and Junior Bryant.
Although Carolyn lived in various places in Oklahoma and Texas, Gruver Texas had a special place in her heart. She maintained close relationships with her sisters and childhood friends until the end. One of her very special friends was Marguerite Winder Nelson.
Graveside service with internment will be held at a later date at Gruver Cemetery near Gruver, Texas.
