A devoted and loving mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend, Bonnie Swick passed from this life after a three year battle with ovarian cancer on January 23, 2008.
Bonnie was born in Glendale, CA October 4, 1942 and spent her childhood years in South Dakota and Colorado. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado and received a Masters in Counseling from Eastern Washington State University. She was a teacher and school counselor prior to marrying Larry Swick on December 29, 1974. She and Larry lived in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Kentucky, Alabama, and California, before arriving in Longview in 1988.
Bonnie’s professional experiences include Family Services Coordinator for Region VII ESC Head Start, Parent Educator and Executive Director of Parenting Resource Center of East Texas, Area 3 Coordinator of Practical Parent Education in Plano, Texas and Program Coordinator of Practical Education of Parents in Longview.
Bonnie was a leader in her community serving as Chair of Leadership Tomorrow, Longview Partnership/Chamber of Commerce, President of Region VII ESC Head Start Policy Council, President of Zonta Club of Longview. She was also a member of Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Advisory Board, Advisory Council of Children’s Advocacy Center of East Texas, Parenting and Family Relations Response Team, Texas Agriculture Extension Service and I Am Your Child Texas Network.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her father Mark. Those left to celebrate her life and legacy are husband Larry Swick, sons Mark and Tony, stepchildren Mindy Tim, Patricia, Todd Kelley, and Tim Dee, mother Avis, sisters Beverly, Cheryl Dave, Janet Ron, brother Jim Kathy step-sister Lynn Steven, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, January 26 at Greggton United Methodist Church 1101 Pine Tree Rd.. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road on Friday, January 25 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Bonnie will be buried in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
