Billy Darrol Gibson's Obituary
A celebration of life service for Billy D. Gibson, of White Oak, Texas will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow in Dollahite Cemetery in Hallsville. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Billy, better known to all his family and friends as Bill, Pa Bill, Uncle Bill, and Brother Bill, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday afternoon. Bill and his twin brother James Carrol were born on December 4, 1940 and spent their years growing up in the Hallsville Gum Springs area. Bill was retired from Shippers Car Line ARI and Trinity Industries however he never slowed down and he was still going strong working for Nelson Tyl Construction Company and 1-800-Radiator.
Bill was involved in many activities during his life time. He was an active member of the Gladewater CB React Club, he and his twin brother Carol had a scout troop, he was one of the original members of the White Oak Volunteer Fire Department when it was started in the White Oak School bus barn. Bill was very involved in organizing the White Oak Girls Softball League and coached for several years. One of his greatest loves was going square dancing with his family and friends. Bill was an active member of White Oak United Methodist Church. He was well known and loved in the White Oak area. He was Paw Bill to most of the kids and he was Mr. Fixit to anyone who needed something worked on.
Billy Darrol was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Donie Gibson; his twin brother, James Carrol; his brothers Herman Gibson and Wilbert Gibson; his sisters, Ernestine Coleman and Sandra Hudson; and his mother and father-in-law, Nash and Ruby Odom.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Odom Gibson; his daughter and son-in-law Sissy and Tim Tyl; son and daughter-in-law Nash "Bubba" and Anita Gibson; grandchildren, Justin and Christina Gibson, Casey and Heather Gibson, and Shannon, Wesley, Vincent and Shaynee Tyl; four great grandchildren; and two aunts, Virginia Starr and Wilma Deaver; and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
