Beverly Perkins Matzig
Beverly Matzig passed away at her home in Cedar Hill, Texas with her husband of 59 years, Bob Matzig at her side on July 27, 2013 at the age of 81. Beverly was born December 29, 1932 as the eldest child of A.T. and Celeste Perkins in Tampa, Florida. Beverly and her family moved to Longview, TX where she started 1st grade and graduated from Longview High School.
During her junior high and high school days in Longview, she taught dancing at her aunt's Shivers School of Dance. After graduation, Beverly attended Kilgore Junior College and was a Lieutenant in the famed Rangerettes dance team.
While at Kilgore, Beverly met Bob Matzig of Dallas, TX and they were married in 1954. Together they moved to Del Rio, TX and began their new life together. Beverly opened her own dance studio in Del Rio, the Beverly School of Dance where almost every local girl and even a few boys came for ballet and jazz dance classes starting at age 3.
Beverly also taught ballroom dancing at night for teenagers and adults. With the help of many kindred artists and dancers, she produced 46 consecutive dance recitals where her dance students from two generations performed for family and friends. Through her school of dance, Beverly touched many lives and with unwavering passion and much community support, she brought the arts to a remote West Texas border town, a brave endeavor succeeded…. Bravo!
After 53 years in Del Rio, where they made countless lifelong friends, Beverly and Bob moved to the Dallas area to be closer to their only child Lee Matzig.
In addition to her husband Bob, Beverly is survived by her son Lee Matzig, grandson Austen Matzig and three nephews Keith, Todd and Denny Perkins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Mike Perkins.
The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Ester, Allison and Jackie and for the loving care they provided to Beverly over the past three years. They were with Beverly in her home every day to assist and make her life better, which they did with great success.
