Barbara Jean Walden's Obituary
Barbara Jean Walden, age 93, of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully on July 17th, 2025.
Born on September 25th, 1931 in Albany, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of Hoyt Lee and Bessie (Walker) Massey.
Jean was a graduate of Albany High School, where she went on to attend the Macon Hospital School of Nursing. After earning her nursing degree in 1951, Jean dedicated her service to the healthcare field as a registered nurse. She met her beloved husband Earnest Charles “Charlie” Walden and moved to Longview in September of 1955. Though she touched many lives through nursing, Jean’s greatest joy was in her role as a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She poured her unconditional love into every part of their lives.
Jean was a member of Winterfield United Methodist Church, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life and she was actively involved in the Winmore Sunday School class. Jean also spent nearly 20 years doing volunteer work at Texas Oncology, where she was once named volunteer of the year as a testament to her commitment and hard work. She will be remembered not only for her faith and kindness, but most of all for the deep love she showed her husband and children.
Jean was preceded in death by parents, Hoyt Lee Massey and Bessie Walker Massey; and husband Charlie Walden. She is survived by two sons, Dwight and wife Cyndi; Douglas and wife Rhonda; grandsons Matt Walden and Tom Walden; sister-in-law Patricia Walden Story, and numerous great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 10am in Rosewood Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to Winterfield United Methodist Church, or to the Texas Oncology Volunteer foundation.
