Barbara Ann Friend's Obituary
Barbara Ann Friend
Barbara Ann Friend, 96, beloved mother, passed away October 11, 2015. She was born, June 27, 1919, to Mary Roe and William Hensley of Fulton, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Aaron David Friend.
Though she lived in various states of the United States, and even had the opportunity to experience life in Europe, Barbara was a longtime resident of Longview and always thought of Longview as home.
She was a founding member of Pinewood Missionary Alliance Church now known as Hope Fellowship. She took great joy in sharing her faith and in serving the Lord by holding various positions and offices in the church.
She was also known for her love of teaching. Barbara taught 3rd grade in Arkansas and Kindergarten for many years at Peggy Ann School. Whether in a classroom or with her own grandchildren, she delighted in making an impact on the lives and learning of children.
Barbara never met a stranger and made friends easily. She was generous with not only her money, but a kind word and smile. Within minutes of meeting her, she would know your name, share the love she felt for her family, and have you laughing at her witty stories of her childhood.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children; Reggie Friend of Santa Ana, Gale Friend of College Station, Mark Friend and wife, Sheila, of Gladewater, Beth Marinari and husband, Joe, of College Station, and Vicki Murphy and husband, Don, of College Station. She has 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Hope Fellowship Church in Longview. Entombment will follow in Memory Park in Longview, TX under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
