Alvin Elmo Davis' Obituary
Alvin Elmo Davis, affectionately known to his family as “Mokey”, was born January 26, 1930 and left this earth at the age of 92 on September 4, 2022. He has been reunited with his beloved wife, Maxine, where they are both in the presence of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Al and Maxine were married for 69 years; he loved and honored his wife through sickness and health, with a devotion to her that spoke volumes about their love. Al had a sweet, gentle spirit and was a man of few words. He served his Lord by caring for others through the Texas Baptist Men, providing meals to those affected by natural disasters; delivering Meals on Wheels with Maxine; and caring for his siblings and other family members during times of illness or need. He was also a member of two service organizations: Lions Club and Civitan Club. Al and Maxine were long-time members of First Baptist Church of Longview, where he served as an active deacon. Al helped many East Texans acquire their first homes during his long career at First Federal Savings & Loan, retiring as its President and member of the Board of Directors in July 1993.
Al taught his children and grandchildren by example how to love the Lord in action. He made his grandchildren laugh hard at his stories, and he laughed at himself even harder than they did! He extended unconditional love and grace to his family. His life exemplified wisdom, and his entire family benefited greatly from knowing and being loved by him.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Gus Alvin and Myrtle Davis, his brothers, Eldon Davis, Weldon Davis and Jay Davis, and sister Madoline Lewis. He is survived by his brother, Bill Davis, sister, Theda Fay Phillips; son, Preston and wife Teresa, son Phil and wife Margaret, daughter, Cindy Mays; grandchildren Matt Davis and wife Cristy, Drew Davis and wife Adrienne, Geoffrey Davis and wife Jill, Rachel Davis and husband Marc, Tam Mays and wife Kendall, Heidi Mays and Hannah Mays; great-grandchildren Eli, Connor, Evan and Cora Davis.
A funeral service will be held at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Visitation will be held immediately preceding the service at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to First Baptist Church, Longview, TX, or the Texas Baptist Men.
