Uncle Mokey has held a special place in my heart for as long as I can remember. When he was in college, he would visit Daddy (Perk), Mother (Annie Grace), and me (Sheb) when I was a toddler and still an only child. I remember looking out the window before each visit anxiously waiting for Uncle Mokey to drive up because he always brought me gum and candy.
The most vivid memory of my childhood with Uncle Mokey was in the spring of 1952 when he introduced me to his girlfriend, my future Aunt Maxine, and they took me on their date to take pictures on the side of the road of us sitting in the beautiful crimson clover. Uncle Mokey drove, I sat in the middle of the front seat between them, and Aunt Maxine sat sideways with her back against the passenger door. Oh, what an impression she made on a three year old! I thought Aunt Maxine was just the 'coolest' sitting against that door and I also thought that this is how couples sit on dates and I could hardly wait to date, so I could sit up against the passenger door!
Uncle Mokey shared special memories throughout my life of Grandmother and Granddaddy raising their family and what it was like growing up with Daddy, Uncle Weldon, Aunt Theda, Aunt Mat, Uncle Bill, and Uncle J. I treasure these precious memories and I treasure my special bond with Uncle Mokey whom I love dearly.
With all my love,
Sheri
