To: Bruce, Brenda, Charlotte, Tommy and families:
Nancy and I were deeply saddened to learn of Aunt Alice's passing. When I saw the beautiful picture of her it brought tears to my eyes. Great memories from my youth came flooding back and that picture is now permanently in our family tree. The family gatherings at Aunt Mary's were wonderful. I remember shortly after your Mom and Dad were first married they visited my parents and we met your Dad. He pitched right in and started to help me build a cart for my bicycle.
Of course, you also will have fond memories to come at moments and they will be precious. Hang on to them, share them with your children/grandchildren and she will be with you always.
Being the last of the ten George siblings makes it even more difficult to give her up. That and her picture reminds me so much of my Dad. She is truly the passing of an iconic generation in our family.
Bruce, I will be eternally grateful for the kindness you and your Mom showed my sister, Mary Alice, in her final days. You may not know that she was named for your Mother and Aunt Mary our eldest and youngest Aunts.
Extended travel is a problem for me so I will not be at Aunt Alice's service. I will have to say our thoughts and prayers are with you and we would love to hear from you as you have time.
Take care of each other as your Mother would do,
Sam and Nancy George

To Bruce, Brenda, Charline, and Thomas and their families, and Kay Eason Moore, Shirley Coleman Renfro, Sam George, Jeanette Barkett, and Betty Jean Barkett Horaney
I send to you my deepest sympathy in the sad passing of your dear mother, aunt, and cousin. I know how much she meant to you and that this loss is devastating to each of you.
I do not remember any time in my life when I did not know Alice George, her having been the youngest of my aunt Ruth Eason’s siblings.
I remember her, from my early childhood as a very pretty young woman who always had the time to give a kind word to a little girl who often found herself the only child in the house on those times when Mother would find enough spare time to drive across Marshall for a visit with your aunt “Do” in her house on Hickory Street or others of her sisters in your grandfather Alec’s house on Callaway Street. I remember those times as if they were only yesterday. The lovely young woman in the photograph is exactly as I remember from that long-go time of World War II. It’s no wonder that Bruce Gaw never had eyes for another after he first saw her. The fairness of her face extended all the way to her soul.
The last time I saw Alice, my late sister, Rosanne Arnold, and I were spending a week in the Eason home and we stopped at Alice's house for a long overdue chat. It was a wonderful surprise to find that the visit also included two of my favorite George cousins, Edna Barkett Gani and Jeanette Barkett. I never thought that the memory of that visit would have to last the rest of my life, but I was destined never again to see either Alice or Edna.
Alice enjoyed a long and happy life which she shared with her darling Bruce until his sad passing in 2004. She and Bruce brought up four loving and devoted children who, in turn, brought a new generation into the world. I know her greatest happiness centered around Bruce and their children, their children's children, and their children's grandchildren.
I know this is a difficult time for each of you. Please be assured that you are in my thoughts as another chapter in the George family history comes to a close.
