Wynelle Grimes Smith's Obituary
Mass of Christian Burial for Wynelle Grimes Smith, 87, of Longview will be 10 AM Saturday, August 29, 2009 at St. Mary s Catholic Church with Father Peter McGrath officiating. Rosary will be recited at 9:35 AM prior to Mass. Burial will follow at Nesbitt Cemetery under direction of Rader Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
She was born December 17, 1921 in Marshall, TX to Arch Adams Nesbitt and Tennie Louise Southerland Nesbitt, prominent pioneer families of East Texas, and died August 25, 2009 in Longview, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph A. Grimes, Sr. and Ernest F. Smith; her mother and father; three brothers, Roy Arch Nesbitt, Galen Nesbitt and Julian Durward Nesbitt; and a son, Ralph A. Grimes, Jr.
Mrs. Smith was educated in Marshall public schools and Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX renamed TWU. For many years, she, her husband and her children lived in Austin, TX where she was very active in church, civic and volunteer organizations.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Raiford of Longview and a son, Gary Nesbitt Grimes of Plano, TX. Four granddaughters, Holly Crow, Kerri Gayle Rogas, Amanda Woods and Amber Grimes; and six grandsons, Jeffrey Arch Grimes, Christopher Scott Grimes, Jamie L. Grimes, Therrell Edward WoodsTrey, Christopher Aubrey Woods and Michael Grimes; 10 Great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
