Wray Barton McCash, MD.'s Obituary
Loving father, brother, physician and friend. Wray died July 9, 2016, at age 87, of heart failure after a long and productive life. He was born to Paul Kellam and Mary Wray McCash in Atlanta, Georgia, and lived in Boston, Hartford, Connecticut, Atlanta and Dallas as his father transferred with the Coca Cola Company. A graduate of Highland Park High School, Wray proudly performed as a member of the “96 Guys and a Doll” Mustang Band at Southern Methodist University. Following graduation, he attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he was elected to the AOA honorary medical society. Internship year was spent at Kansas City General Hospital, where he met his future wife Rosemary; they married in 1953. Wray then served as a Captain in the US Air Force for the next two years, returning to Galveston for residencies in internal medicine and dermatology.
Wray began his dermatology practice in 1959 in association with Dr. E.S. (Stan) Farrington. He had great fun playing pranks on his brother Paul, in Texarkana, also a dermatologist. He was proud to serve as the president of the Texas Dermatological Society, the Gregg County Medical Society, and the Longview Beautification Association. He was also a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a member of the American Medical Association, and a member of the Texas Medical Association. He retired from practice in 1992. Wray was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church since 1980.
Among his varied interests, Wray counted activities with his daughters and their families high on his list, along with travel-study programs with his wife on art and culture. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in a regular bridge group, and monthly RODEO (Retired Old Doctors Eating Out) meetings with other physicians in the Longview area. A true gentleman, Wray demonstrated courtesy, a genuine interest in his patients and friends, and a disciplined life as an example to others.
Wray is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary. He is survived by daughter Ann Apprill and grandchildren Allison, Elizabeth and Andrew; daughter Debbie Taylor and husband Robert; daughter Mary Johnston, husband Terry, and grandchildren Lance and Christy; brother Dr. Paul McCash and wife Barbara; niece Carolyn Cox, husband Chris and children, and nephew Dr. Charles McCash, wife Beth and children. Visitation will be 5:30-8 PM Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Rader Funeral Home. After a private burial service, a memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Wray's family extends grateful thanks to his physicians and the staff of Longview Regional Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care he received.
