Services for Woodrow W. Koonce, 89, of Longview will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road, with the Pastor Aaron Bequette officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:30 pm until service time.
Mr. Koonce was born May 28, 1914 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, to Robert J. and Elizabeth Swanner Koonce. He passed away on August 24, 2003 in a Longview hospital.
Mr. Koonce completed courses in petroleum refining at Centenary College, and attended courses at Texas, A & I, Texas A & M, and S.M.U. His career in the Oil Business began by working for Arkansas Fuel Oil Company for 15 years. He spent the next 30 years with Sun Oil Company and the last 5 years as a consultant for the jobs that he enjoyed. He was a member of the Lions Club, a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite Dallas, Texas.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Mr. Koonce was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Maedell Koonce of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby E. and Mary Koonce of La Porte; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Lea and Joe Graham of Kyle; two grandsons, Joe Wilson Graham and his wife Shelly of Hempstead, and Roy Dale Koonce of La Porte; one great granddaughter, Joli Graham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
