Winnie VanMeter Parrish & Billy Verge Parrish
Funeral services for Winnie VanMeter Parrish, 99, and Billy Verge Parrish 88, both of Longview will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, October 4, 2010 at Winterfield United Methodist Church, 2616 Tryon Road with the Reverend Rita Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mrs. Parrish was born on July 6, 1911 in Ashland, Texas to Robert "Bunn" and Minnie Brunner Roe. She passed away on September 30, 2010 in a Longview nursing facility. Mr. Parrish was born on October 6, 1921 in Big Sandy, Texas to John and Billie Mae Parrish. He passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 2, 2010 in the same nursing facility. Mrs. Parrish was a graduate of Karnack High School and was a Department Manager for Sears for over 33 years. Mr. Parrish was retired from the US Postal Service where he spent many years as a rural postal carrier. He also proudly served his country with the Untied States Air Force.
They were both members of the Winterfield United Methodist Church where they were faithfully involved in the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class where she served as the President. In later years she was a part of the Prayer Chain. She was also a loyal member of the American Business Women's Association, Golden Light Chapter.
Mr. Parrish was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Sonny Parrish and his wife Zona who resided in Bogota, Texas.
They are survived by their sons, Robert Lewis VanMeter of Longview, Jerry VanMeter and his wife Susan of Lake Cherokee; daughter-in-law, Ruby Ellard Walker of Hawkins; grandchildren, Robert Wesley VanMeter of Longview, Charlotte Jean Hampton of White Oak, Brandon Phillips of Dallas, Kevin and Sarah VanMeter of Longview, Emily VanMeter of Denton, Kathryn VanMeter of Longview; five great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews including John O'Connor of Mt. Pleasant.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jampana, Mary and all of his staff, as well as the Doctors and staff of Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House and Assist Care Home Health for all of their love and kindness. A special thanks is also extended to caregiver Estella McCoy who is in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests and donations be made to Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House, a very special place.
