Wilson O'Neal Brooks' Obituary
Services for Wilson O?Neal Brooks will be 10 AM Saturday, September 30, 2006 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Jehorek and Dr. W.D. O?Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan Valley Cemetery. Mr. Brooks passed away Wednesday morning in a local nursing home. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Wilson was born on June 9, 1917 in Long Branch, Texas to Eli and Anna Brooks. He proudly served his country in the United States Army with combat duty in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Brooks taught math for over 30 years in both Oklahoma and Tyler. Mr. Brooks was involved in many community activities and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Longview Community Ministries, the East Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and many others. He and his wife, Lady, were also long time faithful members of First Presbyterian Church in Longview.
He is preceded in death in 2001 by his wife of 53 years Lady Brooks; and 2 sisters Zelma King, and Lottie Thompson.
Survivors include daughter, Arnetta Burns of Dallas; son Roderick Brooks of Colorado Springs, CO.; 1 sister Wylma Durley; Grandson Dwight Burns and his wife Ursula; 2 granddaughters Stacy Burns- Haliburtin and her husband Gary, and Ursula Brooks; great grandchildren Chloe Brooks-Kistler, Hailee Brooks-Kistler, Ari Burns, Lex Burns and Kara Burns; and several nieces and nephews.
