Willis "Boe" Alton Alston's Obituary
Willis “Boe” Alton Alston was born on December 9, 1930 in Rusk County, TX and passed away at home in Garland, TX on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. Willis served in the United States Navy. Willis had a vast knowledge of history and language and could captivate his friends and family with his ability to bring all his stories to life. He had a never ending willingness to give and loved spending time with his family. Known affectionately as “Boe” to his family, he never let a person’s birthday go by without a personal acknowledgment from him. He was an avid sports fan who followed most all athletic competitions, but was especially partial to baseball. He had a passion for reading and enjoyed all kinds of literature from classics to westerns. He was an adventurous, well-traveled man, who was interested in getting to know people and places. He carried the family history in his head and heart and will be missed by many.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and John Alston; Brothers Emmett Alston and Douglas Alston; Sister and brother-in-law Gynelle and Jim Bowers.
Willis is survived by his sons, Kenneth Wayne Alston and John Leenaars; Daughters, Katina Alston Green, Louisa Alston-Ballew, Melinda Alston and Johanna Engler. Grandsons, Judd Green, Christopher Ballew, Nathan Green, Seth Alston, Joshua Luke Phillips and Zachary Joseph Phillips; and granddaughter Amber Alston Robinson; and several beloved nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Graveside services with Military Honors for Willis will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 12 noon and Elderville Cemetery.
