Willie Joe Carpenter's Obituary
Willie Joe Carpenter, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on January 28, 1936, in Gladewater, Texas, to parents Dick Carpenter and Curah “Q” McCurdy. Willie lived a life full of adventure, love, and community spirit.
Willie graduated from Gladewater High School and then joined and proudly served in the United States Army. When he returned home he went on to have a fulfilling career as an electrician, working for the City of Gladewater before retiring from Occidental. His commitment to service extended beyond his profession; he served as a deacon at Pine Tree Church of Christ and was an active member of the Gladewater JayCee's and the Gladewater Volunteer Fire Department. His contributions to the community will not be forgotten. Willie's happy place was unmistakably on his tractor, tending to the land and enjoying the serenity of nature. His active participation in the community further showcased his caring spirit, making him a familiar and beloved presence to many.
Throughout his life, Willie cherished the moments he spent traveling with his beautiful wife, Loraine. Whether riding through the open roads on his motorcycle or exploring America in their RV, the couple shared a passion for adventure that took them to many beautiful places both near and far. Willie loved camping and hunting together, creating a wealth of precious memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Willie is preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Curah “Q” Carpenter, brother RD, sisters Mildred and Dorothy, son Dewayne Ellerbe and granddaughter Crystal Rosenthal. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that touched everyone who crossed his path. He is survived by his devoted wife, Loraine Carpenter; children, Donnie Ellerbe and Debbie Bayless, Dewayne Carpenter, Joe and Devona Carpenter, Danielle Ellerbe and Zach and Cheryl Wallace. Also left to carry on his love and legacy are grandchildren, Sean Carpenter, Devin Villegas, Whitney Hass, Kris Carpenter, Nicole Carpenter, Lacee Hinson, Kali Carpenter, Dustin Ellerbe, Daniel Ellerbe and Niq Hunter.
In honor of Willie’s life, a memorial service will be held on July 11, 2026, at 11:00am at Pine Tree Church of Christ. A time of visitation will begin at 10:30am. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Willie's remarkable life, share their fondest memories, and support one another during this time of remembrance.
Willie will be remembered as a dedicated electrician, who not only excelled in his trade but also enriched the lives of those around him with his gentle demeanor and kindness. Though Willie will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the joy he brought into the lives of others will forever remain a bright light in the hearts of all who knew him.
