William Thomas Poole's Obituary
Graveside services for William Thomas Poole, 81, of Longview will be held at 4 PM Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Rosewood Park Mausoleum with Chaplain Richard Pruitt officiating. Mr. Poole passed away Wednesday afternoon in a local nursing home. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Bill was born on September 10, 1929 in Rockhill, South Carolina to Eugene and Gladys Poole. He graduated from Rockhill High School before going off to serve his beloved country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. It was during this time that he met his wife of 58 years, Carol M. Davey Poole. They married on May 24, 1952.
Bill graduated from Clemson University in 1960 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was a long time employee of Youngstown Sheet and Tube followed by many years at Lone Star Steel.
Together he and Carol raised five, Julie, Tom, Joe, Connie, and Jo Ann. He was a loving husband, a caring brother, and a devoted father and grandfather still leaving time to volunteer weekly at the VA Clinic until the onset of his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Gladys Poole and brothers, Eugene and Fred Poole.
He is survived by and will be greatly missed by those that remain here, his wife, Carol Poole; his children , Julie Cullifer and her husband Greg, of Longview, Tom Poole and his wife Peggy of Youngstown, OH, Joe Poole and his wife Bernadine, of Wartburg, TN, Connie Zuiss and her husband Steve of Andover, KS, and Jo Ann Root and her husband Paul, of Longview; 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Poole of Rockhill, SC and Donald Poole of Birmingham, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
