I had the (mis)fortune to need Bill's professional services in mid 1975 - not too long after he came to Longview. He was a good doctor.
Later, in the early 80's, I had the (good)fortune to hunt with him for a number of years on the Carter/Beckworth lease in Upshur County.
That gave me the opportunity to appreciate:
Bill's utter lack of pretense,
Bill's honest enjoyment of life and nature, and
Bill's considerable skills as a camp chef (I've always told folks he could cook food as
good as your grandmothers from those dutch ovens....)
I was saddened to learn of his passing, and I offer my most sincere condolences to those who mourn him.

Dr. Stephenson was one of the finest Human Beings that I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know. I was extremely fortunate to be able to call him my Friend for many decades.
He served His God, Church, Country and Family with Honor & Distinction.
He approached everything in life with great talents & even greater passion.
He was a great example for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
We can only aspire to follow his example and be the best Human Beings that we can be. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers now and in the difficult days ahead. To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.
